15th Post – 15th Anniversary!

Hey all, it’s my 15th post!  We take a break from snarky bathroom talk this week to do a trip report.  This trip report was in 1987, and Walt Disney World was celebrating its 15th Anniversary.  Yeah, I know.  It opened in 1971.  A year-long celebration is not good enough, nor has it ever been, for Disney.  Enjoy some pictures!

If you wanted to stay “On Property” in 1987, your choices were The Polynesian (expensive), The Contemporary (expensiver), or The Disney Inn (expensive and far away.  Not far away compared to today’s standard of far away, but not on the monorail loop = far away).  I stayed at the Buena Vista Palace, near Downtown Disney/Disney Springs/Walt Disney World Village.

Buena Vista Palace!

It had a fountain.  Pretty.

You know these room keys were awesome.

In 1987, there was no such thing as Fastpass, Fastpass+, Magic Your Way, MyDisneyExperience, etc, etc, etc.  You got a “Worldpassport” granting you access to The Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

Child $67, Adult $85.  No political commentary on prices here.  Just wanted you to know what it cost for 5 days in 1987.

During the celebration, Disney gave away something every 15 seconds at the turnstiles.

Didn't win.

Didn’t win.  I did win a watch in 1990, but that’s for another day.

In the Magic Kingdom, they held parades to celebrate the 15th Anniversary.

Check out that roller skater!  Also Brer Bear playing the keytar for some reason.

See those "15 Years" banners?

A duck and some other birds flying overhead.  See those “15 Years” banners?  So out of date.

Epcot got into the act for the 15th Anniversary as well.

A cake. And a lady in her bathing suit, it appears.

And now, here are pictures of a bunch of attractions that no longer exist.

Are these hot air balloon in the Land still there?

After a long day of touring and park-hopping via monorail, it’s time for a relaxing luau dinner.

Thanks for taking this trip through time with me!  Next week we’ll get back to silly bathroom talk, I promise.
